Mardi Himal Trek is one of the beautiful treks of Nepal’s off-the-beaten-path trails, and the travelers
are rewarded with the best combination of nature, culture, and scenery. The trek begins in chaotic
Kathmandu and concludes at peaceful lakeside town Pokhara.
The trek begins with a road drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara, a 200 km road trip over rolling hills
along the Trishuli River, rice paddies, and villages. The trekking from Pokhara to Kande is not long,
and there the trekking starts. There, trekking is steep climb to Deurali, the climb which trekkers go up
through oak and rhododendron forests and from where the Annapurna range of mountains and the
Pokhara valley can be viewed. Make way gradually deeper into the woods, a step away from man but a
step towards fauna and flora life variety.
Forest Camp Walk to Deurali Forest is brief forest trek whose dense forest is so still that birdsong and
snapping of leaves punctuate the peaceful quiet at irregular times. The path continues on to Low
Camp, and there is excellent and diversified view of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) and neighboring
mountains. Trekkers have background scenery with hiunchuli and Annapurna South ranges and
Mardi Himal in distant landscape background towards alpine meadow and rhododendron-hills. Tour
highlight thrill is trekking a day to the height of 4,500 meters at Mardi Himal Base Camp. It is all
worthwhile for the unrestrained beauty of Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and
Machhapuchhre lie in wait for them in all their glory.
Surrounded by sheer beauty, the trekkers descend to High Camp and then Siding Village. Downhill
trekking is a trek through typical Gurung villages, rice-terraced hill sides, and dense jungle, giving the
taste of Gurung village life. The trek concludes with hike to Lumre and road drive to Pokhara. The
trekkers get an opportunity to meet Gurungs, their contrasts, and foods during the trek. Mardi Himal
Trek provides the travelers in search of off-the-beaten-path adventure with nature peace, mountain
scenery, and cultural diversity.
